Getting a home valuation done is not recommended. Poor communication and ultimately a long wait for the report. The phone isn't answered which almost led us to have a second valuation performed to avoid problems with the mortgage. That’s hardly service and they are expensive too. Edit: Later approached with apologies and explanation from their side about what went wrong, which was very nice.

Nick helped us buy our dream house and was absolutely fantastic to work with. During our first (free) meeting, he gave a lot of advice and contacts that we, as starters, benefited greatly from. Because we had a certain set of criteria that we wanted in a house, we did all the searching ourselves on Funda. We interviewed several real estate agents and Nick was the only one who knew about the property we were interested in. He went with us to view the house and helped us make an offer. Throughout the entire process, he was very professional, timely and reliable. He was literally always available to answer our questions. We also found that he ensured very good communication between us and the sellers / selling real estate agent. Because the house we bought needed some work, Nick's expertise and background in building knowledge came in handy. He gave a lot of useful advice and price estimates for our desired renovations which helped us make achievable financial plans. Very nice office. Very personal. And even during the umpteenth viewing (as buyers ourselves, we were particularly critical), Nick remained enthusiastic and sharp. It is one of the biggest and most personal purchases you make in your life. And you want a real estate agent who is both extremely sharp on the content (what is the technical condition, what costs can you expect if you are going to renovate, how do you approach your negotiation, what will be the next step) but also incredibly fun as a person. Because it's quite a journey you go through together. In our case, about 3 years. We almost didn’t buy the house because that meant we would have to say goodbye to Nick as our real estate agent. But it was our dream house, which Nick was able to purchase for a good price. So if you have to choose between your dream house or your real estate agent... We chose our dream house :-).
